Customising content based on someone's physical location is one of the most powerful ways to make the web more personal.
The technology that makes this possible is complex: an individual's location can be estimated from GPS positioning on a mobile device, or using information about a computer’s visible WiFi access points and IP address. Thankfully, the latest web technologies make it easy for us to tap into these powerful tools - and work out where each visitor to your app or website is coming from (with their permission, of course!).
The possibilities here are endless. You could show the latest election results for a particular constituency or district, depending on where someone is at that particular moment. You could point someone towards the nearest polling station, policy meeting or political rally. You could even customise an infographic to show statistics about local demographics, employment and public spending.Play
